When
you go to a facility in which
specifically one or more individuals treat you, it is generally
customary to
thank those people with a tip, an amount of money above and beyond the
price of
the actual service. It is a nice way to say thank you and to show that
their
work is appreciated.
Most
people realize the importance of
tipping at a restaurant, but when you go to a spa you are also expected
to tip.
Again, a person at the facility will be working on you specifically,
and the
gratuity is a way of showing your appreciation. But just how do you go
about
tipping? Here are some hints.
First, find out if a tip has been
included if you received a gift certificate to that spa. If not, then
you
should consult the person who answers when you make your appointment as
to how
much is a customary tip (it is usually between 15 and 20%).
If a few different people work on you
at a spa, then you can divide the tip amount accordingly. People that
spend
more time on you should receive more, and so on.
Remember that the proper term for tip
is gratuity! The tip is meant as an illustration of how much you
appreciated
the services at the spa. This means that while there is usually a basic
amount
expected (the 15 to 20%) the actual amount is flexible depending on the
quality
of the service you received. If you found the person who worked on you
very
friendly and pleasant to be with, for example, you might choose to tip
above
and beyond. On the other hand, if you felt that the service was not as
good as
it should have been, then you are well within your rights to decrease
the tip
amount.
Just remember if you decide you are
going to decrease the tip amount that sometimes too little can be
insulting. If
you really had poor service, you might elect not to tip at all.
Most
of the time, you will be treated very
well at a spa because the workers know that sub-par service will mean
little or
no tip. Conversely, if you really appreciate the quality of the service
then a
good tip is appropriate and appreciated.
